RESEARCH

A project to broaden the understanding about sexual development disorders

The lack of information about the Disorders of Sex Development (DSDs) and their proper treatment are sources of social stigma and suffering for the patients, who can actually have a normal quality of life if they have the necessary assistance and follow-up. In order to think and develop educational material that allows the treatment and diagnosis of atypical genitalia carriers, endocrinologist Berenice Bilharinho de Mendonça, a professor at USP's School of Medicine, is spending her sabbatical leave at the IEA. She has dedicated effort to the study of DSDs and to the follow-up of people affected by them for 40 years.

IEA ON THE RADIO

Repeal of environmental rules by the USA may require drastic measures in the future

The repeal of the Clean Power Plan by USA President Donald Trump may lead to serious consequences for the future of the planet's climate. If the policy adopted by him is followed by other countries and the world starts reusing more fossil fuels, it is possible that the measures taken to reduce global warming will get drastic and much more expensive in some years. The theme was addressed by Marcos Buckeridge, coordinator of the USP Global Cities Program, during the radio program 'Jornal da USP', a partnership of the IEA with Rádio USP. The interview (in Portuguese) is available online.
