Os Invencíveis - equipe de vôlei do IEAWith an advanced, interdisciplinary and extraordinary campaign: that's how the IEA won USP’s Volleyball Championship for Faculty and Staff on November 30. The final match (3-2) has been played against the team of Brasiliana Mindlin Library at USP’s Sports Center (CEPEUSP).

It was the first time that CEPEUSP hosted a volleyball championships for faculty and staff, and IEA’s performance could not have been better in this opening challenge.

Campaign

The championship began on August 17 with seven teams: IEA, Brasiliana Mindlin Library, School of Communication and Arts (ECA), Faculty of Education (FE), Superintendency of Social Service (SAS), CEPEUSP 1 and CEPEUSP 2. In the first phase all teams faced each other. IEA moved on to the "knockout" phase without losing a single set.

In the semifinals, IEA’s team continued the victorious path by defeating the competent staff of FE: another 2-0. Meanwhile, ECA was defeated by BBM and would later win the third place against FE.

An interdisciplinary team for an interdisciplinary institute

The champion team counted with three players coming from IEA’s staff: Marcelo dos Santos Rodrigues, Marlene Signoretti and Richard Meckien. To complete the squad, coach Marcelo has brought in players from other academic areas and administrative staff, as well as a professor of engineering.

According to CEPEUSP’s review, next year’s tournament will have at least 20 participating teams. For 2014, the IEA expects other members of the institute to join the team. The goal has already been set: winning the championship and ending it undefeated again, if possible.
