Since 2015, Martine Maron is an associate professor at the University of Queensland, where she entered in 2008 as a lecturer and became a senior lecturer in 2012. She holds a bachelor degree in Science (Hons I), Zoology and Botany (2000), and a PhD in Philosophy - Ecology (2005), both from Monash University, and the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern Queensland (2007). Ms. Maron has a total of 86 publications (peer reviewed journal papers – 84, book chapters – 2). She has led the development of the Australian government’s approach to environmental offsetting and the IUCN Biodiversity Offset Policy, and was a significant contributor to the conceptual framework for achieving Land Degradation Neutrality under the UN Convention on Combating Desertification. She has had a major role in developing the New Zealand biodiversity offset accounting system, the approach for financial offsets under the Australian Government’s Reef Trust, and the design of several state offset policies. She led the successful nomination for listing of a new Key Threatening Process under the Australian national biodiversity legislation (EPBC Act 1999) and has extensive ongoing policy review and advisory roles with governments and non-government organisations within Australia and internationally. |
