The e-book Reflexive Overview: 11 years of reflections and discussions - The State of São Paulo’s Annual Museum Conference organized by Martin Grossmann, Diogo de Moraes Silva and Diego de Kerchove and produced by the Forum Permanente in partnership with the State System of Museums of São Paulo (SISEM-SP) and the Cultural Association Supporting de Casa de Portinari Museum (ACAM-Portinari), aims to bring a complete and critical overview of the State of São Paulo’s Annual Museum Conference (SSAMC).
Held since 2009, the SSAMC has become a milestone in the cultural policy and museum heritage of the State of São Paulo. Through five administrations of governors, the SSAMC has achieved a stability and durability rarely seen in public policy, particularly in the sphere of culture.
The E-book is divided into two parts, the first -Institutional Overview- gathers texts by some former Secretaries of Culture and leaders of the Preservation of Museum Patrimony Unit (UPPM) and of SISEM-SP, as well as of the Fórum Permanente and of Acam Portinari, bringing a behind-the-scenes perspective on the organization of the SSAMC and their importance within the São Paulo and Brazilian cultural scene. The second part, entitled Critical Overview, brings dozens of critical reports written over the last 11 years about the SSAMC and that are part of Fórum Permanente archives. For the publication, 11 unpublished critical reports were also commissioned, which synthesize each edition of the SSAMC held in the capital city of São Paulo. Among the authors of the Critical Overview are anthropologist Ilana Seltzer Goldstein; philosopher Cayo Honorato; art historians Vivian Braga dos Santos, Julia Buenaventura, Carlos Eduardo Riccioppo, and Vinicius Spricigo; artists Erica Ferrari and Isis Gasparini; museologists Marilúcia Bottallo and Mariana von Hartenthal. The Afterword is by journalist Ana Paula Sousa.
