OPPORTUNITY

USP Global Cities Synthesis Center (Centro de Síntese USP Cidades Globais) opens call for post-doctoral candidates and research associates

Candidates to conduct post-doctoral research or become research associates in 2024 at USP Cidades Globais can submit their projects by 10:00 am on December 15, 2023, for one of the 25 proposed themes that are connected to a previously assigned supervisor. The research areas are linked to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). No financial assistance is available.

Group on "Responsible Artificial Intelligence" welcomes applications from researchers until November 13

The Oscar Sala Chair has an open call for the selection of researchers interested in joining a study group on "Responsible Artificial Intelligence," coordinated by computer scientist Virgílio de Almeida. Candidates can register until 12:00 pm on November 13. The selected researchers will meet remotely on Fridays between November 2023 and July 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. There is no requirement for a diploma, nor is there a scholarship to be offered.

JOURNAL RELEASE

Health, nutrition, and cities are the themes of Estudos Avançados journal 109

The new edition (109) of the journal Estudos Avançados (Advanced Studies) features the themes "Health Promotion," "Food Security," and "Cities and Technologies." They have interdisciplinary connections to social relevance and unquestionable actuality, combining the communication of research results to public debate, according to the publication’s editor, Sergio Adorno. The edition has 384 pages and is now available free of charge in digital format on SciELO. The press edition will be for sale soon.

Meeting brings together USP chairs to establish a collaborative network

Representatives from fourteen of the twenty-three existing chairs at the University participated on October 3 in the first USP Inter-Chair Meeting, organized by the IEA and the Dean of Research and Innovation. The event included: presentations about a survey on the main characteristics of USP chairs, a history of university chairs since their emergence in the Middle Ages, and information on their role today. The meeting was also dedicated to operational aspects of the chairs, as well as strategies for networking.

IEA launches platform for disseminating reliable information about Artificial Intelligence

To better understand advances in artificial intelligence (AI), a multidisciplinary group of researchers launched the UAI (Understanding Artificial Intelligence) platform on September 29, to select, prepare, and disseminate content on the topic. According to IEA associate researcher Veridiana Cordeiro, the website “will help direct us as if it were an AI GPS.” The project's partners are the IEA's Observatory of Innovation and Competitiveness and the Scientific Artificial Intelligence Map, part of the Center for Artificial Intelligence (C4AI) at USP.

This seminar will address the current situation of wind energy in Brazil. The wind potential, considered vast and promising by the organizers of the event, will be under analysis. Watch live.

November 27 to 29, at 8:15 am - Integrated Care for Older People: Paving the Way for Sustainable Aging and Planetary Health

Experts will debate the intrinsic capacity and healthcare strategy of the elderly, favoring the achievement of the UN and Planetary Health Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Watch live.
